Challenge
What used to be an industrial zone outside Stockholm is set to be modernized. Now, the site that was once the production site for the classic AGA lighthouses and AGA cookers, is being transformed to a modern residential area. But how can an old factory be part of a a vibrant neighborhood?
Solution
The area now rebranded as Dalenum - borrowing the name from inventor, entrepreneur, Nobel Prize Laureate and long time CEO of AGA, Gustaf Dalén - is now being transformed as a city styled centre with streets, squares and quays. Some parts of the old factory is integrated as parts of new buildings that will include a total of 1,000 homes as well as offices and restaurants.
Result
The buildings have urban characteristics and are inspired by traditional warehouses and the apartments are designed to maximize the sea view. The courtyards faces the water and works as a natural meeting place for the residents, as is the space between the houses and and the quay.
